The Regional Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment and Energy of Extremadura visits CLH

  • The Regional Minister and the General Director of Industry and Energy visited the facilities in Mérida, where they witnessed first-hand the company’s activities as well as the security and environmental protection systems.

José Antonio Echávarri, the Regional Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment and Energy of Extremadura, and Carolina Grau, General Director of Industry and Energy, visited the CLH facilities in Mérida, accompanied by Ricardo Ribó, CLH Regional Manager, and Francisco Fernández, the Plant Manager, in order to learn more about the centre’s operations and environmental control and protection systems.

The facilities in Mérida house CLH’s main storage and distribution centre for petroleum products in Extremadura. The plant has 15 tanks with a storage capacity of approximately 64,500 m3 and an automated petrol tanker loading platform with 4 islands and 16 loading arms that are in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The facility is equipped with the most modern technology, which allows for fully automated operations operated from a control room.

The centre also has the most advanced security systems available, adapted to the special characteristics of the fuel, as well as an automated continuous surveillance system and various prevention measures.

Environmental protection is also very strong at the facility. The plant obtained AENOR environmental certification ISO 14001 and has various environmental protection systems, including the rainwater collection system separated from the hydrocarbon water system, hydrocarbon water treatment system, vapour recovery unit, tanks equipped with floating screens, and watertight facilities.

CLH in Extremadura

The CLH Group is the leading company in the transportation and storage of petroleum products in the Spanish market, with an oil pipeline network over 4,000 kilometres long and 39 storage facilities with a capacity of 8 million m3, as well as 28 airport facilities.

In addition to the plant in Mérida, the CLH Group, through its subsidiary CLH Aviación, has another facility at the Airport of Badajoz, where it supplies fuel to all the aircraft operating at that terminal.

The oil pipeline in Extremadura is over 119 kilometres long, starting in the Manchegan town of Almodóvar del Campo and ending in Mérida, where it connects to the storage facility.

In 2014, the company supplied 850,000 m3 of fuel to the community’s various petroleum operators in order to meet the demands of the end users.
