Jorge Lanza, Exolum’s CEO: “In view of the increasing social and environmental challenges, private initiatives should take a leading role”
- Lanza highlighted the need for the energy transition to be fair and pragmatic, integrating the three elements in the energy trilemma: supply security, environmental sustainability and affordability for the end user
During his participation in the ESG Spain 2024 – Corporate Sustainability Forum organised by Forética at the National Music Auditorium in Madrid, Exolum’s CEO, Jorge Lanza, advocated greater leadership by the private sector and expressed his support for the integration of ESG criteria in the strategy and day-to-day operations of organisations. During his speech, as part of the discussion panel “Raising ambition in sustainability from the top management level”, Lanza also championed a fair, balanced and technology-neutral energy transition.
Lanza stated that, “In view of the mounting social and environmental challenges, private initiatives should play a more relevant role. Companies have gone from philanthropy to incorporating CSR first and then adopting a much broader concept of corporate responsibility that allows us to achieve a responsible leadership role in the society where we operate.”
Lanza also presented Exolum’s vision for integrating business and sustainability: “At Exolum we do not distinguish between the ESG agenda and the agenda for the rest of the company. When designing our strategic plan, we focus not only on what we do, but also on how we do it, always equally weighing key matters such as environmental protection, operational safety, an inclusive culture and the relations with our stakeholders and governance.”
In addition, Exolum’s CEO addressed the major challenges that lay ahead for the sector and stressed that the energy transition should be fair and pragmatic, integrating the three elements in the energy trilemma: supply security, environmental sustainability and affordability for the end user.
Lanza also explained that Exolum had taken several relevant steps towards the decarbonisation of mobility, such as developing new sustainable energy vectors like biofuels, green hydrogen and other options that aid in overcoming this challenge.
Jorge Lanza participated in the first discussion panel of the 12th edition of ESG Spain: Corporate Sustainability Forum, the benchmark business meeting in sustainability organised by Forética. The event brought together representatives of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge and senior managers from companies such as Amazon, Atresmedia, CaixaBank, Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Ferrovial, Microsoft and Mutua Madrileña. This edition, in which the Honorary Committee is chaired by King Philip VI, coincides with Forética’s 25th anniversary.
