What we do

What we do

Exolum is an independent supplier, and any customer that requests our bulk liquid distribution and storage logistics services.

We take your product wherever you need it

Our state-of-the-art terminals are located at strategic points near logistics and transportation hubs so that bulk liquid products can be stored and dispatched to wherever they are needed.

We also operate the largest pipeline network in Europe, transporting a range of liquid fuels in a fast, safe and clean manner. Pipelines are highly efficient, and their environmental and visual impact is minimal.

We also handle aviation fuel and provide into-plane services at some of the world’s major airports.

Our services are available in Spain, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, France, USA, Panama, Ecuador and Peru.

Spain

Liquid fuel logistics services

Exolum is the leading provider of liquid fuel and biofuel storage and transportation logistics services in Spain. Our infrastructure network is composed of more than 4,000 kilometres of pipelines and 39 storage terminals with 8 million cubic metres of […] capacity, and is available to all operators in the sector, with objective, transparent and non-discriminatory prices.

The pipelines connect the refineries and ports directly to the terminals. The few plants that are not connected to this pipeline network, and those located on the Balearic Islands, receive supplies by tanker vessel. Therefore, the terminals act as intermediaries between the refineries and the end consumers.

Our terminals are also connected to each other by pipeline, rendering our entire system highly flexible and enabling us to help ensure supply security.

This flexibility allows us to maximise the introduction of biofuels in the market supply network, facilitating the achievement of renewable energy consumption targets.

Our operating model in Spain comprises both storage and transportation activities, thus enabling us to function as a liquid fuel bank and making us one of the few companies in the world to offer instant accreditation services.

This means that, thanks to our network of interconnected pipelines and terminals, customers can deposit their fuel or biofuel at one plant and immediately pick it up at a terminal in another location, according to their needs.

We also offer other specialised services with the same level of quality and standards:

    • The possibility of adding additives prepared by the operators to their fuels so they can offer an exclusive, differentiated product.
    • Storage of strategic reserves, storage and transportation of diesel oil with biodiesel and gasoline with bioethanol.
    • Quality control and metrology services through our laboratories.
    • Bespoke services tailored to our clients.

Our facilities are fitted out with the […] latest technology to guarantee product quality and safe operations.

Since 2020, we have been offering travellers flying from several airports serviced by our network the possibility to substitute the proportion of fossil fuel used in their flight with a more sustainable fuel (SAF, Sustainable Aviation Fuel) through the Avikor service, a major global innovation that provides a sustainable mode of transport.

We also offer our customers other services:

    • Technical assistance in the design and definition of aviation fuel storage terminals, hydrants and into-plane services.
    • Inspection and advisory services for the management of aviation fuel storage and supply facilities.
    • Training in operations and infrastructure management related to aviation fuel storage and supply issues (regulations, quality control, maintenance, etc.).
    • Management of documentation relating to operations and the taxes associated with product movement operations at fuel facilities.
    • Electronic data interchange with customers and continuous monitoring of operations.
    • Special ad hoc services tailored to our customers’ needs and operations.

We are a strategic partner of IATA, where we collaborate on different areas. We are also a member of the Joint Inspection Group (JIG), where we actively take part in the Operations Committee, which is in charge of reviewing and updating industry standards on aviation fuel handling and quality control, and in the Technical Forum. In addition, we are on several committees and subcommittees of the Energy Institute and are an affiliate member of the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association (ALTA) and Airports Council International (ACI).

Bulk liquid storage

In the UK, Exolum provides storage and transportation services for a wide range of liquid products. We have a storage capacity of 2.5 million cubic metres across 24 terminals that are strategically located along both the east and west coasts, with easy access to continental Europe. We also have one terminal in Belfast (Northern Ireland).

  1. Integrated liquid fuel storage and transportation service

We are the only independent supplier in the UK that provides integrated services for the receipt, transportation by pipeline and storage of fuels and liquid fuels (automotive, aviation and marine fuels, as well as biofuel blends). Some 2,000 kilometres of pipelines connected to 13 storage terminals are available to us to perform these activities.

Our customers include several military facilities and some of the main airports in the country, such as Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester, in addition to 10 other regional airports.

Waste management

Our facilities are designed for the management of NORM waste (Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material), which typically originates in the North Sea, and for the handling of liquid waste generated during oil, chemical and biofuel industrial processes.

Most of our terminals in the United Kingdom are registered under COMAH and our professionals hold the highest certifications for handling this type of product.[/exm-leer-mas]

Gas storage and management

We provide gas storage services, including the storage of pressurised liquefied gas and industrial process gases, such as butane and propylene.

Our tanks are designed and built according to the highest international standards to adapt to the special features of this kind of product, and they are connected to pipelines so they can be loaded and unloaded directly to and from road tankers.

Warehousing, blending and treating of potable alcohols and ethanols

We offer market-leading capability in the handling and storage of spirit drinks at the terminal we operate on the Tyne River Estuary, one of the largest independent alcohol storage compounds in the United Kingdom.

The terminal boasts a flexible design that can be modified to provide tailor-made solutions to our customers. Some of the added-value services we offer in this field include sampling of stored products and reducing the alcohol content of selected beverages by adding demineralised potable water.
