Exolum is to build a photovoltaic solar plant for its own energy consumption in the vicinity of the Mora facility

• The project will represent an investment of 2.5 million euros and will make it possible for the company to be self-sufficient in terms of renewable electricity

• This project is part of the company’s energy efficiency plan and represents an estimated reduction of 854 tonnes in CO2 emissions

• Exolum’s sustainable projects have been financed by BBVA through green credit lines

Exolum will invest 2.5 million euros in the construction of a photovoltaic facility for its own energy consumption in the vicinity of its pumping facility located in the municipal area of Mora, Toledo. The plant is expected to be operational from 2022.

The facility is expected to have an installed capacity of 4,213.44 kWand will operate under the ‘selfconsumption supply without surplus’ modality according to Royal Decree 244/2019, of 5 April, in an area covering a total of 50,000 sqm.

The photovoltaic plant will allow Exolum to ensure the supply of 100% renewable energy, amounting to 27% of the total electricity consumed in the pumping facility. Electricity consumption is the main source of the company’s emissions and energy supply from this new solar energy plant will prevent the release of approximately 854 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year.

The construction of this clean energy producing plant is part of Exolum’s sustainability strategy aimed at reducing CO2 emissions by 50% by 2025 and becoming a zero-emissions company by 2050, in line with the Paris Agreement of December 2015 (COP 21) and sustainable development goals (SDG).

Furthermore, Exolum will continue to analyse other alternatives to keep reducing its emissions, such as the addition of new technological developments, the diversification of energy supply sources to ensure that they are free from emissions or the adoption of offsetting measures, with the purpose of becoming a carbon-neutral company by 2050.

Exolum’s sustainability strategy also includes other specific plans and projects to strengthen its commitment to biodiversity protection, an efficient use of natural resources and the fight against climate change, as well as cooperating with the oil industry in the development of eco-fuels.

For the construction of this photovoltaic facility, Exolum will be supported by ISE (Ingenia Solar Energy), a company belonging to the Gransolar Group specialised in engineering, building and operating photovoltaic projects for self-consumption, which will be responsible for the design and construction of the photovoltaic plant, as well as its operation and maintenance.

Financing for this project is based on the granting of green credit lines by BBVA, as in the case ofother projects aimed at improving efficiency and reducing the company’s energy consumption and environmental impact, such as the installation of LED lights across all facilities or more efficient electric pumps at the Loeches facility.
