The mayor of San Fernando de Henares visits Exolum’s local facilities

  • During the visit, the mayor received information on company operations and the new green hydrogen plant which is being built in the city

Earlier today the mayor of San Fernando de Henares, Francisco Javier Corpa, and the city councillor for Employment and Training, Personnel and Internal Affairs, José García, together with Exolum’s Spain Region Lead, Jorge Guillén and Global Strategy & Innovation Lead, Andrés Suárez, visited the Pipeline and Facility Monitoring Centres, the Central Laboratory and the storage terminal managed by the company located in the cities of San Fernando de Henares and Torrejón de Ardoz.

Exolum is currently engaged in the diversification of its activities with the aim of becoming a relevant player in the development of new energy vectors, embarking on projects related to the storage and distribution of chemical products, eco‐fuels, hydrogen and the circular economy.

During the visit, Exolum’s Global Strategy & Innovation Lead, Andrés Suárez, explained the project for the construction of a plant for production and dispatch of green hydrogen for mobility purposes that the company is currently building in the city and which will be the first of its kind in the Madrid Region. Representing a total investment of 2 million euros and equipped with pioneering technology based on microelectrolysis, this project is expected to start operating at the end of 2022.

At an early stage, the plant will produce approximately 60 tonnes of green hydrogen per year. Any company or user interested in introducing this energy vector in their operations will have access to it.

The storage terminal located in Torrejón de Ardoz – San Fernando de Henares is Exolum’s main oil product storage and distribution centre in the Madrid region and has the greatest capacity of those owned by the company in Spain.

The facility supplies fuel directly through a pipeline to the Adolfo Suárez – Madrid Barajas airport. It also stores and distributes SAF (sustainable aviation fuel), thus making it possible for the companyto offer any passenger the possibility of reducing the CO2 emissions produced by their flight, regardless of the airline company, through its AVIKOR programme (www.avikor.com).
Exolum manages its entire pipeline network from the Pipeline Monitoring Centre which is designed to monitor fuel transport at all times, while the Facility Monitoring Centre can remotely manage operations at the company’s 39 storage terminals located across Spain. The Central Laboratory is a modern centre for product testing and one of the most prestigious European laboratories at a national and international level in fuel technology. A total of 107 people work at these centres.

Exolum’s pipeline network in the region of Madrid has a length of 240 kilometres and it connects all the storage terminals to each other, while also linking with the rest of the company’s pipeline network.

Exolum is also present at Barajas airport, where it operates a modern hydrant network for the supply to aircraft at all terminals, as well as at Cuatro Vientos and Torrejón de Ardoz airports.
