The CLH Group and the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre renew their collaboration agreement

  • The agreement provides for cooperation between the two organisations in actions to promote cancer research.

The chairman of CLH Group, José Luis López de Silanes; the Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, and president of the Board of Trustees of the National Cancer Research Centre (CNIO, acronym in Spanish), Carmen Vela, and the director of the CNIO, Maria Blasco, today renewed the agreement to promote collaboration between the two institutions in actions to further cancer research.

Through this agreement, the company pledges its support to the CNIO for the performance of activities related to cancer research and training for research professionals.

As a result, the CLH Group also renews its commitment to the “Amigos del CNIO” (Friends of CNIO) community, a platform that aims to involve and engage individuals, companies and institutions that wish to further cancer research (www.cnio.es).

Commenting on the initiative, CLH’s chairman, José Luis López de Silanes, stated that “it is an honour for my company to renew our partnership with a leading global research centre such as the CNIO in such an important matter as cancer research and training for research professionals.”

In addition, the Secretary of State, Carmen Vela, said that “today we have two organisations, one large company and a centre of excellence for research, in addition to a commitment to the welfare of society. Spain needs more philanthropy, and this agreement must serve as an example”.

For her part, the director of the CNIO, Maria A. Blasco, stated that “it is very important to not only have the support of the public, but also businesses. The “Amigos del CNIO” initiative is becoming a source of funding for the recruitment of leading researchers, and we hope to continue growing”.

The agreement is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Policy of the CLH Group, through which the company collaborates with its stakeholders in carrying out projects for the benefit of society and related to social actions, education, environmental protection, culture and entrepreneurship support.

The company also collaborates in other initiatives to promote cancer research, such as its work with the INTHEOS Foundation, an entity engaged in the research of new cancer therapies through the search for innovative drugs and personalised treatments, the Spanish Cancer Association, and participation in the Race Against Cancer initiative organised by the latter association by encouraging and subsidising the registration of employees who wish to take part in the Race.

The Spanish National Cancer Research Centre is a public national foundation created by the Carlos III Health Institute and attached to the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness. Its aim is to promote cancer research and to become a key player in the fight against the disease in the international scientific community.
