Renewal of the Football Social Sports School in San Fernando de Henares

The mayor of the city, the vice-president of the Real Madrid Foundation and the chairman of CLH confirmed the school’s renewal for its seventh year

San Fernando de Henares, 7 September 2017 – The mayor of San Fernando de Henares, Cati Rodríguez, the executive vice-president of the Real Madrid Foundation, Enrique Sánchez, and the chairman of CLH, José Luis López de Silanes, sponsor of the project since the beginning, confirmed the renewal of the Football Social Sports School in the city for the 2017/18 season.

The school, which started its activities in the 2011/2012 season, benefits nearly 100 boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 16, who receive education in social values with football as a medium for training and integration, according to the methodology of the Real Madrid Foundation, “For a REAL education: Values and Sports”, with professional coaches from the sports entity specially trained in the manual “Training football, teaching values”.

During these past seven years, over 600 boys and girls from San Fernando de Henares have enjoyed weekly training sessions as well as the social sports tournament in the Real Madrid City with the other schools in the Foundation, with additional recreational-educational activities, thanks to the cooperation between the three entities. Since the first season, CLH has been the financing sponsor of the project which makes it possible for children in the city, whether or not they are at risk of social exclusion, to enjoy these fully or partially subsidised activities thus making quality sports easily accessible to everyone at the public facilities of the city.

According to the mayor of San Fernando de Henares, “It is good news that the Real Madrid Foundation maintains this school to help boys and girls at risk of social exclusion in our city. Sport should not be a privilege for a few people, but an activity to bring everybody together and educate in social values, such as those represented by Real Madrid”. She also reminded everyone living in the city that “there is a wide range of sports activities in San Fernando, facilities are good and, most important of all, our staff are among the best in the Madrid region”.

The CLH Group is the leading company engaged in the transport and storage of oil products in the Spanish market. In Spain, it has a pipeline network of over 4,000 kilometres in length and 40 storage facilities with capacity for 8 million cubic metres, as well as 28 airport facilities.

The municipalities of San Fernando de Henares and Torrejón de Ardoz host the company’s main oil product storage and distribution facility for Spain, as well as other major infrastructures, such as the Pipeline Monitoring Centre, the Facility Monitoring Centre or the Central Laboratory.

The Real Madrid Foundation, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary this season, develops over 450 social and sports activities for the integration of people, at risk of exclusion or otherwise, across 75 countries in all 5 continents. In Spain, the Foundation develops over 160 projects in local schools, juvenile facilities, children’s hospitals, correctional facilities and centres for the elderly. According to Ricardo Gallego, former player at Real Madrid, who attended the ceremony as ambassador for the Foundation, “sport is our tool to help, educate and integrate. Over 90,000 children participate in the activities carried out by the Foundation”.
