Driving safely includes ALL aspects of driving – on site and off site
- Always ensure vehicles are roadworthy.
- Staff who operate their own vehicles and/or company vehicles must make sure they are insured and licensed to drive the type of vehicle.
- Adhere to the Highway Code at all times.
- Always follow speed limits. Take adequate breaks to ensure alertness.
- Avoid distractions such as radio channel changes, eating / drinking and taking / making hands free phone calls.
- Plan your journey and always take into account weather and road conditions.
- Always show respect to other road users.
- Know what to do in the event of an accident or breakdown.
- It is an offence to use a hand-held mobile device whilst operating a motor vehicle.
- Mobile devices can only be used when the vehicle is stationary, parked and with the key removed.
- A Banksman must be used for all Non LGV vehicles exceeding 3.5 Tonnes gross weight when reversing.
- Vehicle and pedestrian interfaces on site particularly with road loading activities need to be controlled.
Please adhere to these rules whilst driving on site:
- 10 mph site speed limit
- Seat belt MUST be worn
- Diesel ONLY vehicles in operational areas
All categories of on site motorised vehicles MUST NOT be operated unless:
- Vehicles are appropriate for purpose, have been inspected and in safe working order
- Seat belts are installed and worn by occupants
- Drivers are fully trained and qualified
- Loads are secured and within design specifications
- Drivers are medically fit to drive / operate the vehicle
- Other safety devices are used as intended
