Exolum operates a Safe System of Work (SSoW) to ensure work on Exolum sites is controlled. SSoW areas include the following:
- Permit preparation procedures; isolation of plant procedures; hot work procedures; confined space procedures; guidance for managing excavations; remote site isolation procedures; plant apparatus; objection on safety grounds, risk assessments, maintenance procedures. Permits form part of the Exolum SSoW.
- A SSoW is a requirement of all work undertaken on site by contractors and Exolum employees.
- Contractors MUST have the relevant work permit, these can only be issued by a competent, trained Exolum employee.
- The Permit Acceptor who is in possession of the relevant Risk Assessment and Method Statement MUST agree the planned works with the issuer/control person.
- The Acceptor will keep in his possession the Permit Pack, this will hold other relevant items, for example, other permits, RAMS, drawings etc. Both the Issuer and Acceptor will sign the Permits on satisfactory completion of the work.
Other Safe Systems of Work (SSoW):
– MoC – Site Rules – Permit to Work – Lock Out – Tag Out – Practices Route Card | – Start of Shift Brief – Easement Access Agreement – Risk Assessment – Method Statement – Procedures – Mechanical & Electrical Isolations |
Task based Risk Assessment of all work to be carried out:
– Working at Height – Electrical – Mechanical – Hot Work | – Maintenance – Confined Space – Process SafetyExcavation |
Hazards introduced by the working party:
– Machinery – Chemicals – Materials | – Plant – Housekeeping |
Work areas will be inspected on a regular basis to ensure the work is completed as per permit instructions, the back of the permit is to be signed by both parties. An audit and review of systems will be completed on a regular basis.
*This document describes the basic safety requirement within Exolum. If a higher standard is required by local work practice or legislation, then the higher standard must be adopted.
