Madrid, July 30, 2026. Exolum has completed the acquisition of a minority stake in SeaSeaS Amsterdam, a project developing a multimodal CO₂ export terminal at the Port of Amsterdam. The transaction will help accelerate the development of infrastructure designed to connect industrial emitters in the Amsterdam region and other parts of the Netherlands and Germany with permanent geological storage sites beneath the North Sea seabed.
Carbon capture is one of the solutions available to manage hard to abate emissions from industrial sectors that need to decarbonise. However, its large-scale deployment requires infrastructure capable of collecting captured CO₂, aggregating volumes from different emitters and transporting them to permanent storage sites.
SeaSeaS Amsterdam aims to become Western Europe’s first open-access CO₂ export terminal. It will be able to handle CO₂ from both biogenic and non-biogenic sources. It is being designed to handle up to 3.5 million tonnes per year and receive CO₂ by vessel, rail, road or pipeline. From Amsterdam, the CO₂ will be transported by sea to permanent storage sites across the North Sea.This multimodal model will give companies of different sizes access to the carbon capture and storage value chain, including those without a direct pipeline connection. The terminal is expected to become operational in 2030.
Exolum’s participation will bring to the project its experience in developing and operating large scale logistics infrastructure, together with its expertise in the transportation and storage of liquid products. These capabilities will support the development of a safe terminal that can expand as demand grows.

The Port of Amsterdam offers a strategic location for the development of this logistics chain due to its connections with major industrial areas in the Netherlands and Germany. Initially, the terminal will enable CO₂ to be transported to permanent storage sites. In the future, it could also facilitate its use as a feedstock for projects developed within the port area.
