7CO₂

CO2Multimodal Logistics

Exolum has signed an agreement with Severnside Carbon to advance the development of a carbon dioxide (CO₂) storage terminal in Avonmouth, at the Port of Bristol. This infrastructure will enable industries across South West England, the Midlands, and South Wales to connect to the UK’s Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) ecosystem, helping them adapt to an increasingly demanding decarbonization landscape.

As part of this partnership, Exolum has established Exolum 7CO, the company responsible for investing in and developing the project, working in collaboration with Severnside Carbon and Técnicas Reunidas. The future facility will be the UK’s first large-scale CO₂ hub designed with a fully flexible and scalable model, enabling both rail and maritime transportation of CO₂, which will help accelerate its deployment. The terminal is expected to become operational from 2031 onwards.

Once operational, the terminal will be capable of handling up to six million tonnes of CO per year, a volume equivalent to the annual emissions of South West England. This capacity will be critical to ensuring the continuity of industrial activity while strengthening the competitiveness of regional industries throughout the decarbonization process.
